TomTom GO 730 ReviewAn Independant Hands on Review
TomTom has released the all new GO 730 SatNav unit and we got our hands on one to see what it could do.
When we looked for some official comments on the GO730 we found a caption from Tom Murray the Vice President of marketing for TomTom "Our goal is to provide the consumer with the best maps, the best routing and alternative routes, and to provide robust recommendations and intelligence." The GO 730 includes a new "IQ Routes" feature that promises to take traffic tracking and avoidance to a higher and more accurate level. As described on our TomTom GO 730 Prices page the IQ routes calculates routes based on historic average road speeds so that it creates a more accurate view of your journey rather than the rather crude calculations that we've seen in the past. We found this to be an excellent feature that gave us a really accurate calculation when we tried it on a normal route we normally take. IQ Routes means:
TomTom users can volunteer to contribute to the accuracy of the IQ Routes database by allowing data about their travels to be uploaded to the database when they connect their units to TomTom's online Home service via their personal computers. TomTom does however state that sending data to the IQ Routes database will be an "opt in" feature and data sources will be kept anonymous. We can see there being a few privacy issues here but as stated its an opt in service that you needn't contribute to. Enhanced Lane Selection The new GO 730 will also provide you with a higher level of preview and guidance for choosing the correct lane when traveling on multi-lane motorways. Lane selection can be one of the more challenging elements of navigating busy multi-lane highways in unfamiliar territory. TomTom's new lane selection features promise to give you an ample preview of lane choices well ahead of your exit. We've all used or seen SatNav in action and it often can confuse things when there are multiple lanes, however, TomToms Go 730 does an excellent job of making this seamless. Advanced lane guidance graphically and audibly informs you about:
The GO 730 promises to provide better guidance at complex road junctions including a 3D image of the junction and signpost information with route numbers and road destinations. Voice Address Input With the introduction of the new models, TomTom also has improved the voice input functions. We found this to be a neat and accurate feature, it also makes the unit safer because drivers are less likely to be using is whilst driving which we've seen on numerous occasions. Overall, the new GO 730 is a highly competent and competitively priced SatNav unit and we were pleasantly suprised by its new features. We especially like the IQ route system because it gave us an accurate calculation of our journey. The Lane guidance also meant that busy London junctions with multiple lanes were a doddle, on the big screen it meant that everything was clear! We give the GO 730 a highly recommended review!
